Dr. Kerry Emanuel, Professor of Atmospheric Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was one speaker in a presentation on the important role nuclear energy must play in addressing climate change. With Senators Cory Booker, Sheldon Whitehouse, and a roomful of Capitol Hill staffers in attendance for the February 4th briefing, Emanuel, whose research interests include meteorology and hurricanes, issued a stark warning. “Our generations are standing on a precipice, staring into a void whose depth science does not know yet…we really do need to decarbonize our economies very quickly. If we want to decarbonize fast, we have to keep nuclear on the table.” (video courtesy David Schumacher / newfiremovie.com)
