Joe is the CGNP member with the most direct experience with Diablo Canyon Power Plant. Born in Ventura County, CA, he graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor of Science / Civil Engineering. During a stint with the U.S. Air Force that followed, he worked as a Quality Assurance/Control Manager on the USAF MX Buried Trench Missile Project. Joe then went to work for the State of California, spending 8 years engineering highways for Caltrans, and 11 years for the Divison of Highways and Structures, engineering interchanges & highways in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
His experience working with critical civil public engineering projects qualified him for a job designing Units 1 & 4 for Washington Public Power Supply Systems nuclear plant. Following were three years as Senior Civil Engineer working on the United Nuclear Industries’s N-Reactor project, before he was employed by PG&E in Engineering and Quality Assurance at Diablo Canyon. Joe knows the plant from the inside out, and knows it is capable of providing clean energy safely and economically for at least another 60 years of service.
